Our local officers are staging a fundraising event in memory of the 37 Middletown residents that lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The Middletown PBA Local 124 is creating a memorial scholarship in honor of retired Deputy Chief Joseph Capriotti. Deputy Chief Capriotti began his career with the Middletown Twp. Police Department on July 15, 1982, and he served honorably until August 1, 2010. Capriotti carried out many different capacities during his career, but most memorable was the critical role he played in the Middletown Police Department's response to the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Joe responded to Ground Zero in the days and weeks following the attack, and he also personally notified every single Middletown family who had lost a loved one that day, something that was of utmost importance to him. As a result of Joseph's response to Ground Zero, he contracted cancer which he eventually succumbed to in June of 2019. It is with great honor that the PBA is creating a scholarship fund in his name.

Let's come together to salute these honorable citizens, specifically Deputy Chief Joseph Capriotti and activate the human spirit by moving and giving! The race will be held at the Middletown Train Station located at 22 Church Street in Middletown, NJ. The 5K course will be USATF certified and executed by local running club, The Shore Athletic Club. The route will start at the train station and go out 1.55 miles and back on Middletown-Lincroft Road. The turn around will be Thompson Middle School. Course map coming soon. Official chip timing and live results. 2 water tables, one at the turn around and one at the finish. Overall and age group awards grouped every 5 years will be given out after the kids run.
