Packet pickup - 7 a.m.
8-miler and the 5k start - 8:30 a.m
The 8-Miler boasts a rolling course that ambles through the beautiful Vermont countryside then takes you through the heart of downtown Stowe. Scenic views of mountains, fields, and country roads abound. The race starts at the recreation fields on Weeks Hill Road and finishes in front of the Golden Eagle Resort.
The course starts relatively flat with no real elevation gains for the first 2.5 miles. At this point you go up a very short steep hill just before mile 3 and then a gradual downhill run to Mile 4.5, but take it easy as you will pay for this later! Mile 5 to 7 is rolling with two miles along a nice dirt road and the final stretch a gradual uphill climb back into town.
The start of the race will be wider than a standard race and includes a “cross-country” type start on dirt. But don’t worry, you can wear normal running or racing shoes – no spikes needed – the dirt section is only about 1/4 mile and fairly smooth.
The 5k is a very easy course with no hills and only a few small inclines. The total course elevation changes only 70 feet over the entire distance. The 5k starts at the same time and place as the 8-Miler, but veers off at Mile 2 and continues the last mile on the scenic Stowe Bike Path. The finish will be close to the parking area at the recreation fields. From there it’s a short walk to the post-race party (or to see your friends and family finish the 8-miler)!
