The Colorado River Walkers are pleased to be hosting a walk in Bastrop State Park this fall.
Our Start/Finish will be at the Roadhouse Bastrop restaurant, 0.25 km from the entrance to Bastrop State Park. Participants will walk from the restaurant into the park, and this distance counts towards the total distance walked.
We added an another option for walkers after our flyers were printed. With this option, walkers will drive into the park, instead of walking across Hwy 21. This alternate route starts and ends at the checkpoint in the park and includes extra distance to make up for not walking from the restaurant into the park. Walkers will still register, pay, and receive their start card at Roadhouse Bastrop. They will then drive into Bastrop State Park and do the entire walk within the park. They then need to drive back to Roadhouse Bastrop to the Finish table.
There will be both a 5 km and 10 km route available. Almost all of the 5 km route is on wide cement hike and bike trails and park roads. It is rated 1A. The photo above was taken on "The Ol' 9 Loop" trail, which is on both the 5 and 10 km routes.
5 km: The 5 km route is rated 1A and is on cement hike and bike trails. The trails were formerly golf cart paths in an area that used to be a golf course. The land is being restored to the natural habitat of savannahs and prairie meadows and has a small lake.
10 km: Rating is 2B. Both 5 & 10 km walkers walk the 5 km route. 10 km walkers also walk on trails with steeper inclines, some of which are on natural surfaces.
START / FINISH TIMES: Start between 8:00 and 11:00 AM; finish by 2:00 PM.
